Medical Careers:Hanging Out at the Hospital On My Lunch Hour

Guest post written by my buddy Irene Hodge

I work in a stressful hospital environment, so my lunch hour can never come fast enough for me. To calm down and regenerate my chaotic professional life, I like to chill out and watch some direc4u TV with good friends at the hospital employee lounge room. We usually watch light hearted stuff like vintage game shows or MTV, and found the television to be the best medicine for a high pressure job. Pull up a chair or kick back on the couch with pizza, cafeteria take out, or one of Dr. Mason's awesome pot luck stews.

One of the perks of working in a hospital is the strong and cohesive bonds that we have with each other. Hospital staff, whether nurses, administrators or doctors, spend most of our waking hours together and we evolve into a tight family unit. On the job, our daily world can be life and death, however, we always try to alleviate the stress with fun stuff and bonding. Our lunch room is set up something like a family room and everybody can let down their hair and calm their nerves together. Hospital work may not be for everyone, but for those who can take the heat, it's a wonderful second family experience with great people and friendships for life.
