These are real people from Silicon Valley (San Jose,California) who are in their 40's,50's and 60's. There life long careers have been catastrophically derailed. Some,for example, going from a prosperous career in Fiber Optics engineering to working at $9.45/hour at Target. Resulting in the lose of savings accounts, IRA's and homes. Now trying to figure out how to keep the pieces of their lives together. 4.5 million people who have taken out hardship loans on their IRA's. 22% are underemployed or unemployed in California.
