  1. I'm not going to watch a nine-minute video from a job coach. However, just the title of the post, implying that one must change one's **belief system** in order to be employed, disgusts and appalls me. So apparently it's not enough that we're serfs to our corporate masters these days -- we've got to change what we *believe*, too? Yeah... this country is doomed. Nice knowing you, U.S. of A.

  2. I liked it!

To the previous Anonymous, I get that you want short videos, are identified with your belief system, really don't like the idea of changing it, and assume that the new belief system would be picked only to serve "our corporate masters".

    My perspective is very different.
    1. A short video doesn't have room for much information.
    2. Changing beliefs is uncomfortable. Just part of how our brains work. Uncomfortable does NOT equal bad.
    3. Our belief systems change over time. As a kid, did you believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy? Do you believe in them now? Probably yes, but modified from magic to actions by your parents. Was this belief change a good thing or a bad thing in your view? Do you think it would be good to have kept your original beliefs intact?
    4. Pick beliefs and habits that serve YOU. In the video, Dale believed in acting be shy and retiring, and was coached to learn to promote himself and be enthusiastic in the job interview (though I'd expect less over the top behavior in an actual interview). This got him more of what HE wanted and served HIM.

  3. I only watched the first several minutes and it is a load of crap. Is this what we are coming to as a country? Possibly why many good people are put of work .....they do not know how to "brag" about themselves. What I have found out as a hiring manager is that most people who like to talk about themselves and brag are usually uncoachable and very full of themselves. They are also typically not team oriented and don't work well with others. On the flipside people who are down to earth and modest tend to be much better employees. It is not the individuals job to "win" the job, only to be honest and apply for the "right" job (one he or she is qualified for). It is the job of the hiring manager or HR to ask the tough questions to ensure a good fit. Unfortunately many HR departments today are staffed with lazy incompetent people and many hiring managers do not have the proper skills to know how to hire qualified employees.

  4. What a great video! I see myself in this candidate as I am a down-to-earth type of person who doesn't blow my horn. Now I know why I was laid off and it wasn't because I didn't know and do my job well.

  5. I support the above opionions from Anonymous on this video. Enough of this make you feel good stuff! Let's use common sense again!

  6. As a hirer, I can tell you I pitch resumes containing religious comments or undertones.

  7. I'm not quite sure how to reply when so many posted comments are signed "anonymous."

At any rate, it DISGUSTS me to think that we should simply pick the "beliefs" which best serve our own interests and desires!

Any such thoughts are not true beliefs; they are expediencies!

And to the "hirer" (whatever THAT is) who reflexively pitches resumes which contain "religious comments or undertones": I wouldn't be interested in working for your organisation, anyway.

There is one bright side: reading claptrap such as this helps me understand why our society is in such horrific shape.

    watched all the 9 mins.
Only found common sense but nothing related to religion and beliefs.

If the outward appearance is the only belief on has, then please reconsider.
Belief is something of the heart!

  9. I didn't consider the video as having anything to do with a belief system. It seems to deal more with having a weak self image and training to come on stronger and with more confidence; both in person and in his resume.

In the Bible belt where I live, my personal belief system was very helpful so long as I knew when to keep my mouth shut and when to speak-up. Besides, you only reveal as much to someone else as they reveal to you, so if you follow that rule, you will know where to go. By the way, I did enjoy the tape, anyway.

  10. The larger problem is 5 applicants for each job. Improving the interview skills of particular persons doesn't create more jobs. The same number will still be unemployed. It is not the job applicant's fault that there are few jobs out there.

  11. Keeping yourself motivated is really important when looking for a job, a single application won't do specially these days wherein there are a lot of individual competing for single job application.
