Does you resume have "CARS: Challenge Action Results"?
An excellent way to prove you have certain skills is to give specific examples of when you have used these skills in the past. These are considered your achievements and are called CARs (CHALLENGE…ACTION…RESULT). They are the bullet pointed accomplishments on your resume and are quantified (through numbers, percentages or dollars) or qualified through a positive outcome (such as improving a process, productivity, communication or morale). Samples:
Subject: Winning Marketing Proposal
CHALLENGE: (What problem did you solve?)Describe the problem or circumstances in which events occurred. (This section will be brief or non-existent on the resume, but will be strong in the interview.) Sales were down, and CEO requested an immediate new marketing strategy.
ACTION: (How did you do it? What steps did you take?) Established time schedule; consulted with technical staff; gathered research and designed computerized graphs. Wrote and presented detailed proposal to CEO and sales managers.
RESULT: (What happened? How was the benefit measured?) Proposal was completed in a week, accepted by the CEO and brought the company $750,000 in sales in the 1st 6 months.
