Performance appraisals are used to assess the employers investment in the employee, of course. However, it is also important to keep in mind that performance appraisals can be used in creative ways against an employee. Due to current at will employments laws (which you most probably agreed to when you signed your employment agreement), an employee can be terminated for any reason whatsoever. It is when a wrongful termination suit is filed, that performance appraisal information is most useful. Questions: In what ways can a person get away from the at will employment clause during the hiring process, not including a contractual agreement??
