love the article, I actually ask these questions during my phone screen
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I've heard stories that these questions won't even get asked if there is the slightest hint of a negative answer.
ReplyDeleteGaps and short-term jobs are bad, even if you DO have a perfectly valid reason (involuntary separation from the military under "RIF" rules--still honorable discharge; or contract position and the contract completed)
Some of the questions can be asked during phone interview as well, but if you are busy at the moment when you get phone call for interview, it would feel little nervous to adjust the environment with phone call...immediately.

I wouldn't want to work for someone who comes up with interview questions designed to trick the interviewee. I mean looking for a job is painful enough, but then to have an interviewer who wants to make every interview like a game of Jeopardy, what's the point. Sure, as an employer, I want someone whose mentally agile, but if I have to resort to asking trick questions to figure that out, then it's my fault for not putting together a good set of questions.
