We are the official committee for UNFPA in the United States. We are a U.S. based 501C-3 organization funded by private foundations, corporations and individual donors. We were founded in 1998. We educate, advocate and raise funds for UNFPA.
UNFPA, like all UN agencies, is funded by the voluntary contributions of governments and private foundations. UNFPA was founded in 1969.
Our Work
Our outreach has generated tens of thousands of supporters for global women’s health and channeled their passion into advocacy on behalf of UNFPA’s program. The result is an increase in the U.S. government’s contribution to UNFPA to $50 million. (UNFPA, like all UN agencies, is funded by the voluntary contributions of governments and private foundations.)
Our current goal is to gradually increase U.S. funding to $100 million for the life saving work of UNFPA.

Each year Americans for UNFPA honors individuals who have made exemplary contributions to women’s health and/or the promotion of women’s rights around the world. These extraordinary individuals promote women in their own communities, often in challenging circumstances. These are stories of courage and commitment that Americans rarely hear.
Each year an American college student becomes a young ambassador for UNFPA. Chosen for her interest in a career that promotes women around the world, the winner of our Student Award travels to visit one of our honorees, lobbies her members of Congress and educates her classmates on the challenges and solutions to global women’s health.

In 1994, the United Nations convened an historic conference in Cairo that changed the way governments, international agencies and other professionals thought and talked about population. At the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), leaders from around the world agreed that the future of the world's low-income countries depended less on controlling numbers of people and more on improving the quality of people's lives. The focus of that improvement, they agreed, must be global improvement in the status of women.
